State Medicaid Operations & Communications Partner
- United States
- Fully Remote
- Full Time
- $90,000 - $110,000
For People is a team of skilled technologists improving government digital services for disadvantaged and vulnerable populations. We embed directly in government agencies to modernize software, systems, and platforms so that they better serve people.
Your Impact
You'll join a high-impact project with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), helping to define and build a new automated Medicaid data system that replaces a critical manual process. As the State Operations & Communications Partner, you will be a critical partner to our Policy and Program Strategist. You will support State Medicaid offices by translating interactions into clearer guidance and better decision-making, while improving communication and documentation to reduce misinterpretation and misuse.
How You'll Work
For People is a team of humans. We place a significant amount of emphasis on positive work-life balance, setting healthy expectations, and making sure our loved ones are taken care of first. That means picking a child up from school during the day or going for a mid-day walk is okay!
This position is 100% remote. Our entire team is remote across the United States, from the West Coast to the East Coast. There will never be a return-to-office, as we have none!
This position's published base salary range is between $90,000 and $110,000 annually, plus generous benefits (e.g., For People pays 100% of Gold-tier employee health insurance premiums) and annual company profit sharing.
Your Opportunities
At For People, you will:
- Lead daily state communication, draft policy-guided responses, and track communication patterns to drive process improvements.
- Analyze state inquiries to develop clearer guidance, stronger documentation, and better internal decisions.
- Facilitate complex projects efficiently, ensuring focused communication, clear ownership, and timely decisions without creating bottlenecks.
- Create repeatable workflows by documenting institutional knowledge and iteratively improving processes, templates, and state-facing content for clarity.
You Bring
- A humble and caring attitude aligning with For People’s values – how we work with passion, fun, curiosity and sustainability, humility and respect.
- Ability to communicate complex information in plain language across diverse audiences.
- Ability to audit and edit content for clarity, structure, and timeliness.
- Systems thinking - ability to quickly and concisely recognize patterns across multiple inputs (questions, feedback, requests, incidents, etc.) and understand how decisions, documentation, and communication affect downstream behavior and risk across the system.
- Proven ability to work across power dynamics, including external partners, federal agencies, and internal leadership, while remaining steady, credible, and non-reactive. This includes knowing when to escalate, when to pause, and when to translate rather than transmit.
- Nice to have: Experience working with state Medicaid programs and/or Federal health agencies.
